International Handbell Symposium Youth Festival
INAUGURAL AUSTRALASIAN YOUTH FESTIVAL CAIRNS,
FAR NORTH QUEENSLAND. DATE CLAIMER 3rd – 6th August 2018

The inaugural International Handbell Symposium Youth Festival will be held from Friday 3rd to Monday 6th August 2018 as a prelude to the International Handbell Symposium being held in Cairns, North Queensland.
The Festival will conclude with the Australasian Youth performing at the opening of the International Handbell Symposium on Monday evening 6th August. The Youth will present to the Handbell World Community, a commissioned work consisting of handbells, youth choir and Maori musical instruments.
Barbara McGeever, the Convenor of the event said: “We are hoping that some of the international youth ensembles, attending the International Symposium, will join us on the Sunday night’s concert and showcase their skills and musicianship. Invitations will be extended to the young handbell ringers of the world to make music with us on Sunday night.”
On Sunday night, The Youth Concert will include a massed ringing event which will be directed by a well-known and highly respected international conductor who works with young people. The individual ensembles will have a chance to shine with their own special performances.
Distinctly Australasian Youth is designed for ensembles and individual young ringers (up to 25 years) who wish to enrich their ringing skills and challenge their musicianship. Participants will spend three days working on intermediate repertoire which will be available at a later date.
