Latest Update -  19 February 2009

Dear HSA Member

This is to let you know how the programme will work for Friday 10 July, for those who will be coming to the festival.

Most ringers will arrive on the Friday afternoon.  Registering will be done at Adams House when you arrive.  You can then settle in, then get your bells to the school.  We will probably be able to help in the transportation of them.  It's only about 500 metres to the school.  You can then set your bells up at your allotted tables, and can do some ringing practice in the auditorium setting. Evening tea at Adams House will be at 5.30 pm, with the official opening at the school at 7.00 pm.  The first session of massed ringing rehearsals will be from 7.30 - 9.00 pm.

On the Sunday afternoon, the public concert will start at 2.00 pm, and this should be completed by 4.00 pm.

Regards

Bruce McCallum

Venue:   Christchurch Boys' High School Auditorium, Straven Road, Riccarton, Christchurch.

Accommodation:  Adams House, 70 Harakeke Street, Riccarton.   This is a modern boarding hostel, and is the live-in accommodation for those attending Christchurch Boys' High.  It is within easy walking distance of the school, and has rooms with 1,2 and 4 beds (shared facilities).  Bed and breakfast here, will be slightly over $NZ41 per person per night.

Programme:  There will be the usual Workshops, but these still need to be finalised.  It is hoped to have a ringing workshop for advanced ringers who wish to ring at a higher level.  Also Massed Ringing sessions, Rally Ringing, an AGM and a Public Concert.

Music:  The music being considered, is likely to come from the following list.

As the Deer  (Patricia Sanders Cota)  3-5 octaves  Level 3

Pachelbel's Canon  (Hal Hopson)  3-5 octaves  Level 2+

Ring Jubilee  (Susan Geschke)  2-3 octaves  Level 2

The New Zealand National Anthem  (arr. by Chris Archer of Hawera)  3 oct  about level 1+

Registration Forms and Cost: The forms will be e-mailed or posted to all HSA members, both groups and individuals.  At this stage, the Registration Fee has not been finalised, but it will be in the vicinity of $NZ155 per person, plus music of about $NZ15 per person.  Music for school groups will be less than this, because of special copying arrangements.  There is expected to be a $NZ30 reduction for school children.  There will be a surcharge of $NZ10 for participants who are not members of the HSA.

Foam/Pads for Tables:  These will all be supplied.

Options for Non-Ringers:  Some sight-seeing on the Saturday, with trips for example, to Hanmer (hot pools) or Akaroa (French origins).

Expressions of interest in attending the Festival:  Some groups have already indicated their intention to be at the festival.  It would be most helpful if you could, at this stage, let the convener know if there is a likelihood of you or your group being a part of this special occasion in July of next year, because Adams House is already receiving enquires from other groups wishing to book some of the accommodation there.
