Handbell Society of Australasia
20th NATIONAL HANDBELL FESTIVAL 2001

Perth, Western Australia
Friday afternoon 6th July to Sunday afternoon 8th July 2001

Numbers were down at this year's handbell festival.  It was the first time the HSA festival has been held in Perth.  Unfortunately for many members from NZ and the Eastern states, distance and costs were just too great.   However, the president was undeterred and embarked on three connecting flights and 12 hours travel to be there!  For those able to make journey, it was well worth while.

One of the highlights of the festival would have to be an introductory concert on the Friday evening by the Brookhampton Bellringers.  They are the longest standing group in the country and it was a special occasion to welcome them to an HSA festival for the first time!

The festival program included massed ringing, and group performances.  A variety of workshops were offered.

For the Saturday afternoon, there was an excursion to the Swan Bells in Perth.  A few of the HSA members are also tower bell ringers and enjoyed the opportunity to have a ring.  For many it was the first opportunity to visit a bell tower.

The Sunday afternoon concert was enjoyed by ringers and audience alike.
